Family Young Adults
Early adulthood can be a daunting and confusing time. You’re asked to quickly transition from being a student, guided by your parents, teachers and coaches, to being a fully independent working adult.
Unlike the academic world, adult life doesn’t come with a personalized course syllabus, built in accountability, readily available counselors, and a precise growth measurement system. Without the framework of a support system, many young adults feel ill-equipped to navigate key life decisions, develop a personal vision and to become fully independent.
Even though this new reality is exciting and empowering, the pressure to succeed and to make the right decisions can, at times, leave you feeling overwhelmed, fearful, confused, anxious and sometimes … stuck.
OnCourse young adult programs provide a launching pad for you to address your current realities, and then courageously transition into and embrace new realities.
Parent—Young Adult Connection Retreat
Most parent-to-young-adult relationships fall somewhere along the spectrum below:
The enduring success of a maturing young adult requires the ongoing support and encouragement from parents—in all aspects of the young adult’s life. Both the parent(s) and the young adult must commit to interact as transparent and vulnerable adults, releasing self-righteousness and stretching toward one another.
At this experiential retreat the OnCourse guides facilitate candid and compassionate dialogue between the parent(s) and young adult. Both have the opportunity to address lingering concerns, and shift into a collaborative and loving adult-to-adult relationship.
The retreat includes:
- “Rules of engagement” for an authentic family dynamic between—and within—the family generations
- A rite-of-passage for releasing the prior parent-adolescent relationship, and then embracing the new adult-to-adult relationship
- Tools on how best to encourage and empower young adult children to realize their own destiny
- Guidance on sustaining a “Drama-Free Family,” defined by authentic interactions, mutual respect, prudence, adaptability, stewardship, lifelong learning, and self-responsibility.
